Obituary of Rosa VERARDI

May 31, 1926 – San Giovanni in Fiore, Cosenza August 13, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Rosa Verardi (nee Marra) passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 13, 2019 at the age of 93 years. Rosa was born on May 31, 1926 in San Giovanni in Fiore Italy where she met and married her husband of 54 years Salvatore. In search of a better life, Rosa and family immigrated to Canada in 1961, having spent five years in Kimberly, B.C before settling in Calgary, where she would be employed by Pinecrest Poultry until her eventual retirement. Rosa was a strong and caring woman who enjoyed gardening, knitting and word search puzzles. Before her dementia progressed and her health began to fail, her greatest joys came while preparing bountiful meals for her family. She took great pride in making sure her family was always taken care of. Rosa is survived by her daughter Maria (Giuseppe) Ventura; son Joe; grandchildren Antonia (Joe) Pangia, Francesco (Juliana) Ventura, Giovanni Ventura, Josaiah Verardi, Marcus Verardi; four great-grandchildren; and extended family in Canada and abroad. She was predeceased by her husband Salvatore in 2005; four brothers, and four sisters. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY on Monday, August 19, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
