DI GEORGIO, Serafina (mamafina) October 7, 1933 – July 7, 2013 Serafina passed away peacefully at Foothills Hospital after a lengthy illness in her 80th year, surrounded by her loving family. Serafina is survived by her loving husband John of 59 years. Beloved mom to Rosina and Raymond, Proud nana and second mom to Ray (Kelcie), John Paul (Molly), Stefani, and Michele and Great Nana to Johnny. Serafina was the eldest of the five Papa girls: Maria, Silvia, Pierra and Alba whom she loved. Serafina was predeceased by her parents Michele and Elvira Papa, her mother and father in law, Rosina and Jim Di Georgio, Brothers in law Jim Di Georgio, Oliver Segreto, Guiseppe Marinaro, and nephews Mario Marinaro and Luigi Fabiano Serafina was born in Grimaldi Italy and immigrated to Fernie, B.C. to be with her father. Her mother and sisters joined Serafina and her father later and it was in Fernie where she met and married John in 1954. She had one daughter, Rosina in 1957, who was the centre of her life. When the Fernie mine closed, John and Serafina moved to Calgary. She worked tirelessly to make her family’s life happy and comfortable. She was completely devoted to her daughter, son-in law, husband and her grandchildren which she raised. She was their second mother and they loved her unconditionally for her constant support and encouragement to be the best they could be. She was our gift, our pillar and our constant reminder to work hard and to love each other. She will always be with us and we are forever indebted to her for making us who we are. We love you! A celebration of Serafina’s life will be held at St. Lukes Catholic Church (1566 Northmount Drive NW Calgary) where Prayers will be held Wednesday July 10 at 7 pm and her Funeral Service Thursday July 11, at 11:30 am. Graveside service to follow at the Queens Park Cemetery Mausoleum. Special thanks to Dr. Ronald Hons, Dr. John Fernadez, Dr. Boucher, and Dr. Doig, and all the ICU staff at the Foothills hospital for their exceptional care and compassion for Serafina and her family.
