Obituary of Francesco GALLO

1930 – San Giovanni In Fiore, Italy 2013 – North Vancouver, British Columbia It is with great sadness that the Gallo family announce the passing of their father and nonno Francesco Gallo at the age of 83 years. After bravely battling three bouts of pneumonia he passed peacefully on Monday, June 3, 2013 in Vancouver, BC. Throughout his battle with pneumonia, he remained positive and maintained his quick wit and keen sense of humour. Francesco was born January 1, 1930 in San Giovanni in Fiore, Italy. He immigrated to Canada in 1954, residing in Ottawa and subsequently married the love of his life Maria Granato via proxy. They were married forty-seven years. Francesco and Maria lived in Calgary since 1970 where they raised their three children, Paride, Sarina and Davide. Because of a medical setback, he resided with his daughter Sarina and family in Vancouver since 2006. Francesco was passionate about the great outdoors, gardening and foraging for wild mushrooms. He especially loved the mountains of Whistler, BC and Banff, AB because the topography reminded him of his hometown in Italy. Francesco is survived by his family whom he loved and in whom he took tremendous pride, Pat and Maria Gallo, Sarina and Mark Ruus, David and Grace Gallo; nine grandchildren, Jesse, Tessa, Christopher, Marisa, Caroline, Jonathan, Stefano, Alaina, and Gabriel and his great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Maria in May 2003; his sisters Saveria, Liberta, and Rosetta; and his brothers Giuseppe and Pasquale. Francesco will always be remembered and forever loved. Rest in Peace. Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Mass which will be celebrated at Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Parish (formerly Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church) (1714 – 14 Avenue N.E.) on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 10:30 am.
