Obituary of Phyllis May HUSBY

1919 – Rosthern, SK 2013 – Calgary, AB Phyllis May Husby of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at the Chinook Hospice in Calgary, at the age of 93 years. Phyllis was born in 1919 in Rosthern, Saskatchewan to parents Thomas Mason King and Elizabeth Bessie Dean and grew up on a farm near Leask, Saskatchewan. After graduating from high school, she accompanied her mother to England to visit their family in Farnham, Surrey and was there during the early days of WWII. After returning to Canada, Phyllis joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corp, where she achieved the rank of Lieutenant. After the end of the war, Phyllis moved to Saskatoon where she met and married the love of her life, Archie Husby. Phyllis and Archie lived in many small towns during their sixty years of marriage, including Southey, Saskatchewan, Tilley, Cermona, Vermilion and Vulcan Alberta before retiring in Calgary. Phyllis joined the Eastern star in 1952, and was an active member for most of her life. She was also an enthusiastic volunteer in the United Church. Phyllis is survived by her children, Patsy McNish (Larry), Aileen Smith (Warren) and Brian Husby (Joan Erickson); eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren who were vey close to her She is fondly remembered by the family’s special friends Chuck and Jean Bourque, Ken Scheelar and Phyllis Sawchuk .Over their lifetime Phyllis and Archie made many friends, and endeavored to stay in contact with them. Phyllis also valued her family and relations and her relatives in England and in Warman, Saskatchewan held a warm place in her heart. She will be loved and remembered by all her knew her. She was predeceased by her daughter Margo Husby-Scheelar in February, 2013 and her husband Archie Husby in October, 2005.
