Obituary of QUAN – John Lew
1913 – 2012
John Quan passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at the age of 98.
John is survived by his children, James, Shirley, Norma and David (Carol); his grandchildren, Lise (Matt), Amy (Murray and great-granddaughter Lola), Ryan and Evan; his brothers, Wing Lam, Wing Ho; and sister Soong and their families. He was predeceased by his wife Tenie and brother Wing Bin.
John spent his early years in Toisan, China, Victoria, BC and Shackleton, SK before moving to Calgary and marrying Tenie Lee in 1938. He made many friends over the years as owner of Universal Fruit on 6th Avenue downtown, co-owner of the Sunrise restaurant in SW Calgary and as a long-time member of the Chinese United Church.
Family and friends are invited to Celebrate John’s Life at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Eastside Memorial Chapel (5388 Memorial Drive N.E.) on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Calgary Chinese United Church or to the charity of your choice. The family greatly appreciates the care provided by Bethany Calgary Level 6 staff and Dr Ulrich Lauf.
