Obituary of Amalia Lopes DaCosta SIMOES
Amalia Lopes Da Costa Simoes of Calgary passed away peacefully Sunday, May 8th at the age of 59, after a courageous battle with Cancer.
Amalia was born in Viana Do Castelo, Portugal on February 1st, 1957. In 1966 Amalia and her family came to Canada to join their father Antonio. They spent the first four years in the town of Pine Point, Northwest Territories, and moved to Oliver, British Columbia, in 1970. She later moved to Calgary Alberta, where she graduated from the University of Calgary with an Education Degree. Amalia began her career at Marion Carson School, where she taught for 35 years. Over the years Amalia enjoyed many summers spent in the Okanagan and Portugal, as well as traveling throughout Europe with her family. She lived a positive and peaceful life, with her family and friends.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her family John Simoes, her devoted husband of 33 years; two daughters Christina (Adam) Olson, and Natasha Simoes. Her memory will also be cherished by her father Antonio Da Costa, her brothers and sisters, as well as extended family and friends in both Canada and Portugal. Amalia was predeceased by her mother Gloria Da Costa, and infant sister Lourdes.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church (4747 – 30th Street S.E.) on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church (4747 – 30th Street S.E.) on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 10:30am. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, for the care and compassion shown to their mother.
