Obituary of Douglas Charles ROLLANS

April 7, 1934 – Bowden, Alberta November 29, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta Douglas Charles Rollans, family man, business owner and whistler extraordinaire passed away peacefully on November 29th, 2015 with the love of his life, and wife of almost 60 years by his side. Doug was born on April 7th, 1934 in Bowden, Alberta to Teenie and Charlie Rollans. Doug loved growing up with his four sisters Lorraine, Norma, Lois and Marg and his brother Buzz. In those days you could find him playing hockey, helping out on the family farm, or getting into all kinds of trouble with his best friend Charlie Dallas. In 1989, after being a surveyor for a number of years, he took over Teledyne Exploration renaming the business Teletape Services Ltd. Doug loved his work so much, the word “retire” was not in his vocabulary. You could find him at Teletape every day, right up until the day he passed. His colleagues and employees appreciated Doug’s expertise, attention to detail and good-natured personality. The work day wouldn’t officially start until Doug waltzed through the front door with a whistle and a “good morning” before putting on his first pot of coffee. On March 24th 1956, Doug made the best decision of his life (his words!) by marrying his true love Beverly Bjarnason. For the last 59 years Bev and Doug have enjoyed living in Calgary, where they raised five children, and delighted in all the joy and experiences that brought them. Along with Beverly, he is survived by all five of his children, Debbie (Craig) Simpson, Joanne (Ian) Connell, Randy Rollans, Tim (Carol) Rollans, and Jenna (Cory) King. Doug adored being a grandpa to his seven grandchildren Rio (Jason), Cyd, Aidan, Jake, William, Charlie, and Romy. He was also fortunate enough to meet and spend time with his first great-grandchild this year, Bodhi. Doug was deeply loved and will be forever missed, but we will think of him whenever we spend a weekend at the farm, watch the evening news or the good ol’ hockey game. Whenever we hear a faraway whistle, we will know it is time to go home. As per Doug’s wishes there will be no formal service. In lieu of cards and flowers make a donation to your favourite charity, or take your whole family out to dinner and tell them there is nowhere else you’d rather be!
