Obituary of Donald Robert Milton HYNDMAN

April 8, 1944 – Calgary, Alberta November 26, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta The family of Donald Robert Hyndman would like to announce his passing on Thursday, November 26th in Calgary. Don was born in Calgary on April 8, 1944. He graduated from the University of Calgary with a business degree in 1969 and attained his standing as a Chartered Accountant in 1971. As a partner with Deloitte & Touche LLP and as one of the firm’s specialists in securities and the oil & gas industry, he served a wide range of private and public companies as well several government agencies of Canada and abroad. In his work, Don travelled extensively throughout the world and his interests in travel extended into his retirement. As a partner and employee of Deloitte & Touche LLP for nearly 40 years, he received a number of national awards for client service, marketing and innovation. Don believed strongly in giving back to the community and in this regard he served on a number of charitable boards and business committees such as Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra Society, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundations (senior advisory), Boy Scouts of Canada (Queen’s Scout and troop leader), Alberta Liberal Party (treasurer), Alberta Securities Commission (senior advisory), Alberta Institute of Chartered Accountants (student education committee) and Calgary Chamber of Commerce (oil & gas committees). Don will be best remembered for his full devotion to his family and his kindness and respect for others. He felt his 40 year marriage to his wife Michele, and the togetherness they shared in all things, as being the greatest years of his life. He considered his children and grandchildren the best gifts of life. Don is survived by his wife Michele Hyndman of 40 years, his children Lea Hyndman, Ashley (Graeme) Swansborough, and Devin Hyndman and his grandchildren, Keltie, Connor, and Jamisey. He is also survived by his brother David (Pat) Hyndman, his sister Shirley (Doug) Travers, brother-in-law Roy (Denise) Freeborn, and his nieces and nephews, Jilene (Simone) Sauve, Sheree Stewart, Michael (Allison) Freeborn, Jord Offord and great nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his sister Sharon Freeborn and his parents Jean Hyndman and Milton Hyndman. In dealing with the many medical challenges he faced during his lifetime including Crohn’s Disease, Kidney Disease and Vascular Disease, Don is very grateful to the many doctors and medical staff who provided necessary medical care through the years and in particular, Don would like to thank the medical staff of the South Calgary Dialysis Clinic and Dr. Daniel Muruve for their special medical care in his later years. The family also wishes to thank the Palliative Home Care team for their excellent care and support during Don’s last days at home.
