Obituary of Cyril William CARPENTER
September 28, 1926 – Wakefield, Yorkshire, England
May 18, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta
William (Bill) Carpenter passed away peacefully at Calgary’s Foothills Hospital on Monday, May 18, 2015.
By his side was his wife of 52 years, Felice, and their two sons Martin (Robyn) of Calgary and Jamie of Canmore. Also sharing their love with Bill during his final days was his daughter Colleen of Vancouver and granddaughter Emily of Calgary.
Bill was born and raised in Wakefield, Yorkshire, the youngest of four children. Having served with the Royal Navy during World War II and its tumultuous aftermath, Bill’s youthful sense of adventure led him first to Australia then to a new life in the Canadian west. During his time in Regina, Saskatchewan Bill met the love of his life, Felice Kuntz. On their wedding day in July 1962, Bill and Felice travelled from Saskatchewan to the booming city of Calgary, Alberta. The annual Stampede was in full swing upon their arrival and they knew straight away that they had found the right city for their future. Eventually settling with their two sons in the northwest community of Cambrian Heights, Bill served for twenty years as an Assistant Planner with the City of Calgary Planning Department. Following his retirement from the City in 1988, Bill shared many happy days on the trail with his friends in the Second Sixties Hiking Club. Bill also attended history classes at the University of Calgary where he was called upon to share his experiences of the wartime Mediterranean and Middle East. Forever inquisitive and cheerful, Bill Carpenter was a wonderful husband, father and friend.
