Condolences
Hi Jan,
I am so sorry to hear you lost Jared. I was not aware. My sincere condolences.
Pat Kelly is a great guy and I am glad to hear he was able to spend so much time with you. I know that after I lost my wife it was important just to have people around willing to listen. It can be quite difficult to adjust to the ‘new normal’ otherwise.
With time, may you find those good memories more often than thoughts of grief.
Kind regards,
Len Webber, MP

Hello Jan,I am so sorry to hear of Jerry’s passing.
As a young person who was lucky enough to play with the rams and to have the strong leadership of Jerry was very special to me.He was someone I and all my team mates looked up to.

Hello Jan,
I was so sorry to read of Jerry’s passing.
I first met Jerry shortly after I returned to Calgary in 1991 to become the first GM of the Honens Piano Competition. It was a challenging, if not impossible assignment. But I knew I needed Highwood to get me through it and as soon as I realized Jerry was there, asked Barry if there was any way I could work with him.
Jerry became a trusted advisor and friend to me. He seemed to understand what I was trying to do more than anyone else and helped me navigate difficult waters. He opened some valuable doors especially with some leaders like the Kings who were wonderfully helpful in setting up the Honens education program. We needed to raise a lot of money to get us through that first year and he helped strategize about it too. By the time the jury announced the winner, I was happily moved into Highwood and saw Jerry over the coffee machine. We worked on a few other Highwood assignments. I loved his war stories about politics in Alberta and the Regina Pats. I am pretty sure I joined the Y because of him too.
Thanks to the small public relations community, we saw each other often. I loved his calls…. Miss Enslin, he would say, Mr. Joynt, I would reply….
I am especially grateful to you both for creating PROFS and pulling together our gatherings.
What an amazing life you had together over six decades. I am sure he often thanked the day he met you!
My deepest sympathy to you and your family Jan during this sad time. Jerry won’t be forgotten.
With warmest regards and a hug, Rosemarie

My Dear Jan; I was unaware of Jared's passing. We first met at a function in the Watergrove Hall. I was over the moon when you both showed so much interest regarding the activities. Volunteering was definite on Jared and at your bucket list, as he graduated in that capacity the head of the class. His personality ,and ability to listen and act with diplomacy was remarkable. My loved to you and your family. From Jamie
Thank you to Pat Kelly our MP, for your vist and condolences! I was very pleased and honoured to see you!
Jan
Sure enjoyed my early morning chats with Jerry at the Eua Claire Y over the years and my thoughts and prayers are with all of Jerry's family.
Dear Jan. We can't imagine thinking of you without Jerry as you both epitomized the true partnership a marriage such as your was. I had the great fortune to work with Jerry as far back as the Western Canada Summer Games, then a mayoralty campaign and later with the Calgary Homeless Foundation. Jerry always exhibited an innate insight into the challenges facing us and invariably was able to offer a practical solution. Always with your support Jerry made a remarkable contribution to the quality of life our young city developed over many years. he will be sorely missed. Love John and Bobbie Currie
Jared was a very kind and considered man a true gentleman and he will be dearly missed.
Hi Jan and family. It was with surprise and regret when I read of the passing of Jared. It does not seem that long ago when we were at school together at Luther College where early memories were made. There were not that many of us left and now there is one less. So sorry to hear the news.

Dear Jan and family,
I am so grateful to Jerry for pulling together a number of us PR types to form a group to keep in touch- PROFS. Public Relations Old Folks Society will stand tall. Thank you Jerry for the wisdom of relationships and connection - you provided a lovely send off gathering when I moved on from the zoo.
Blessings,
Trish Exton-Parder
Jan and your family,
I am so deeply saddened by Jerry's passing and for your loss. I am proud to have worked with Jerry (1997-99) with Travel Alberta, learning from him as we navigated the delicate environment of Alberta provincial politics (Jerry's sage advice saved the day on more than one occasion!).
And from this grew our friendship that has spanned continents and the growth of families and of course, observing Jerry's (not-so-gentle) transition into retirement (!) and more time fully shared with his beloved Jan - always the road trips and the planning for the treasured gatherings with family. How a Lion was tamed!
I am humbled to have been counted as a friend by Jerry and fortunate to have been counselled by his wisdom and perceptive, sardonic wit. His mischievous eyes and his wry smile always held the promise of knowledge unspoken....but if you were patient, you were richly rewarded.
The City of Calgary and the Province of Alberta have lost a Great Canadian.
Jerry, I wish you peace and thank you sincerely for your fellowship.

Dear Jan and family ~ I am so glad that I visited with you both last year when Othmar was in town. We had lots of great giggles, stories and wonderful memories of our time together during OCO'88. Finally confessing to Jerry about all those times that I said that Othmar was at the dentist when he was actually out with Al! You were a great leader for our wild and crazy group and both yourself and Jan would have those great parties to keep us all on track. We were truly a family and you set the tone for a fun and successful Olympics. You will be missed and I am grateful we kept in touch all those years later. Cheers to you Jerry ~ may you be running and kicking up a storm. Big hugs Jan I'll see you soon ~ Love Lisa xo
Dear Jan and family,
The photo you've selected for Jared's obit is how I mostly remember my connection with him. I was a volunteer with the Writing side of the Olympic Arts Festival which fell under Jared's purview. Also being in the PR business, we also had that in common back then. I think for lots of us who worked or volunteered for The Best Ever Olympics there was never anything that came along after that could quite touch the euphoria of being part of it. Just as it was a highlight of Jared's life, so too was it for me. When we would cross trails after -- either in the PROFs get togethers or a CPRS meeting or event, our shared experience always came up with a smile. Our cohort of PR folks is shrinking markedly and I'm beginning to think there are more of us in heaven now that on earth. Which is a good thing, eh. Always good to have friends in high places.
Jan, widowhood is overwhelming in the beginning when the heart is aching and the brain is fogged. Your Jerry will always be with you but in my experience, it slowly but surely gets easier over time when you think of him with a warm fuzzy and a smile rather than with trembling and tears. If there is anything I can do...perhaps find it first and then go for a walk to see the leaves beginning to come out in the Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area or later, to see them fall.
Peace be with you
Dear Jan and Family,
My deepest condolences.
So many good memories from OCO’ 88 with Jerry - and the gang. What an incredible life he had. I will remember Jerry for his great sense of humour and ability to stay calm when things were hairy. He has left an enormous legacy.
Sending love.
Jan and Family, Scott and I were very sad to hear of JG's passing. What an amazing man, life and career memories to be remembered by. We enjoyed the stories he told us of his trips and involvement with the 1988 Olympic group. His face would
just light up and it was with many laughs we were regaled with some of the experiences you two enjoyed during that time. I look back on our few camping trips together with great happiness. Sitting around the campfire, JG with his cigar and stories. Our trading e-mail jokes while he was President of the Watergrove Social Club, being informed this one or that one was going into his binder for later then hearing him tell that joke at one of our many functions made me happy. Jared was always ready to dress in costume for Halloween, usually something showing his support for the Calgary Stampeders, he was such a fan and his wardrobe reflected that. His presence will be missed by so many people. I am certain he will be watching over you and telling stories around a campfire with friends who went before him now that he is in heaven.
Jan, Thanks you for sending Jerry's Obituary to me. It has been a while since we were last together in Calgary. .

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Jan, and your family. As we say in the military, in my former career, “Blue Skies for Jared”. He was a lovely, charismatic man, and I could not help but notice the glint in his eyes when he spoke of his career and his passion for sport.

What a man! What a guy! I was so fortunate to know Jared and call him my friend, actually my oldest friend. We knew each other first in Rouleau and then Regina. He was a talented guy and had an ability to express a conception that was phenomenal. We played hockey together, Jared was a darn good defenseman and he could score too. He was a wonderful father to his children Tim and Kim and a perfect partner for his wife, Jan. I was always amazed at how much they loved each other and were not afraid to let it show. Jared could be a prankster and was always getting into trouble at Luther College. He love Calgary and his successes in the business community are well known and respected. I will miss my friend. Wilson, Dick & Nancy;
Our condolences Jan; take comfort knowing Jared made many many valuable contributions through his consultations, counsel, and friendships over so many decades. The time he spent mentoring the next crop of communications professionals also translated into the cultivation of leaders that followed us in time. The Crown of a very successful career was Calgary’s own OCO ’88 — and it took the finesse and common sense of a Jerry Joynt to keep the leadership on the positive plane that was achieved. Personally, I consider myself to be so fortunate to have worked with, and learned from, a Master. Blessings to all of you.

Dear Jan
We are so very, very sad to learn of Jerry's passing. What an outstanding contribution he made to public relations during his exemplary career. Jerry set new standards for excellence in sports communications with his leadership as a vice-president at the Calgary Olympics, benchmarks for those who followed. I'm proud to say Jerry was a valued friend that I had privilege to have known since our days at sister corporations in Regina. My goodness, that was the early 1980s! Please know Jan you are in our hearts and thoughts as you make you way through the weeks and months ahead. May you find comfort from knowing how much Jerry adored you and valued your partnership.
