Obituary of Mario Stocchero

January 21, 1944 – Vicenza, Italy

March 4, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Mario Stocchero of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 4, 2024, at the age of 80 years. Born in Italy in 1944, Mario immigrated to Canada in 1967, seeking new adventures as a curious, handsome, young man. Landing first in Montreal, then Vancouver, before settling in Calgary, where he made his beloved home. Here, he nurtured 30+ year-old geraniums, hollyhocks, and other beautiful flowers and vegetables in his garden. Crafting homemade wine and fruit schnapps brought him great joy and satisfaction, especially while sharing a drink over lively conversation. Mario relished in the simple pleasures of life: great food, dear friendships, long walks, and cherished time in his camper van, driving the West Coast and exploring Mexico's beautiful landscapes.

Mario's love for those he cared about was unmatched—video calls with family in Italy (especially his adoring siblings), bocce and picnics at Edworthy Park, or Scopa and pizza with friends at home. This community of family, friends, and neighbours will keep his memory alive. Mario will be fondly remembered for his unique personality, and though he may be gone, his spirit will live on. May he rest in peace.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 14 St SW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall at the Church.
