Obituary of James Albert CURR

November 21, 1934 – Calgary, AB September 17, 2014 – Calgary, AB Jim put away his hockey referee whistle, his softball umpire gear, his hammer and his handyman skills. Then had to leave the “Angels & Studs” exercise group, stopped golfing and lastly and most reluctantly had to stop curling with the Family Leisure Centre (FLC) Seniors. He was a mentor, teacher, instructor and executive member who devoted much of his time to the Calgary Hockey Referees Association, the Calgary Softball Umpires Association, seniors curling and was a founding member of FLC, now the Trico Centre. Born in Calgary to Scottish immigrants he grew up in Inglewood. He worked for over 37 years in Regina and Calgary with Gulf Oil and was a proud and happy employee of his company. He married Lorainne (Olson) more than 54 years ago and they raised four children: Rob Curr (Claudia), Nancy Friedrichsen (Garry), Jill Curr and Leanne Frederick (Dan). He was the proud grandpa of eight cherished grandchildren: Sam, Peter, Therese, Alyssa, Jack, Edwin, Adam and Annalise. Family ultimately defined his life. He is survived by his sister Audrey Liepins, grandniece Jordan Fordyce, husband Mark Chambers and her father Dave Fordyce. Besides his parents, James and Mary, he was predeceased by his sister Mary and her spouse Bernard Nicholson, brother-in-law Martin Liepins and niece Arlene Liepins Fordyce. The family wishes to thank Dr. Nairne Scott Douglas, Dr. Doug Helmerson and all their nurses and office staff who helped him manage 40 years of Scleroderma. Of late, thank you to Dr. Maureen Murray and all the Sarcee C3 staff. Special thanks to Dr. M. Avis Boyer, Doreen Fry primary nurse and their home care staff. Jim found rest and peace on September 17, 2014. Jim requested no flowers and no formal ceremony. Should family and friends wish, condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
