Obituary of Rose Marie Peters
September 2, 1938 – Wetaskiwin, Alberta
April 3, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Rose Marie Peters of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the age of 85 years.
The firstborn of Marvalin and Lawrence Humbke, Rose Marie enjoyed being the center of their love and affection for a glorious five years, before the consecutive arrival of her five brothers, Roger, Harvey, Louie, Bevan, and Mark. Her fondest memories of childhood were the gathering of families, riding her horse Dixie to the one-room schoolhouse, and helping her father on the farm.
Mom attended Camrose Lutheran College and in 1959, she married and was swept off to the big city lights of Calgary. She had three children, Morgan (Karen), Corinna (Francis), and Allison (Ken). Mom loved motherhood and volunteered at all our activities; Scouts, Brownies, softball, figure skating, and some ill-fated attempts at baton twirling classes for the girls. Mom belonged to the Thorncliffe Greenview Women's League for over fifty years and her happiest times were spent with the friendships of these amazing ladies.
Family was her world. She attended every event, sporting activity, christening, marriage, anniversary, funeral, and welcomed all into her home. Her number was a consistent one in everyone's phonebook and on many a speed dial. Mom adored her grandchildren, Amber (Phil), Shyanne (Matt), Gabriella (Victa), Olivia (TBD - lol!); and her many great-grandchildren, Kaylynn, Laurel, Thayne, Will, Sam, Keaton, Bracken, Tehl, Remy, and Virgil.
Mom loved sports; bowling, bocce (AB gold champion), floor shuffleboard, and even played women's ringette. Her competitive streak extended to heated card games with all family members, particularly her children and grandchildren, and yes, she kept a logbook of all the scores. She was a terrific winner and not above gloating and doing her "I Won...I Won" cha-cha-cha victory dance. How we will miss it.
There is a mom-sized hole in our hearts now. We choose to envision her surrounded by love, eating cinnamon buns, enjoying a cigarette, and nestled into a tight card game with her mom, family and friends.
