Obituary of David Edward Trevor Jones

November 19, 1947 – Winnipeg, Manitoba

May 28, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

David Jones passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the age of 76 years, following a dignified, challenging, and ultimately peaceful cancer journey.

Dave lived a big, eventful life, filled with music, creativity, travel, and much love. He was predeceased by his parents, Norma and Trevor; and his sisters, Diane and Donna. Dave is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Andrea, his brother Brian, and an extended family, including in-laws, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. He enjoyed a special connection with his nephew Larry and his wife Susan Long, as well as dear friends Terri and Les Hogan, all of whom helped ease his final days. Many, many amazing friends made Dave’s journey incredibly special, filled with adventure and laughter – you know who you are. Deep thanks from both of us.

Dave enjoyed a lifelong love affair with music. It brought him great joy, challenges, and inspiration. His musical career spanned many decades and included military service as a commanding officer of Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry Band, a university jazz teacher, and more recently, as musical director and conductor of the Prime Time Big Band for 29 years. Dave loved entertaining audiences and sharing his passion for music. He leaves a legacy of creating musical moments for people in Canada and around the world.

His was a great life well-led. David was deeply loved and will be missed.
