Obituary of Terézia Fotter

October 15, 1933 - Pesterzsébet, Hungary

September 12, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with a very heavy heart that we have to say goodbye to our Anyu, Terezia Fotter; a very kind, loving, and non-judgemental mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She suffered only for a short time and took her last breath surrounded by her family on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the age of 90 years.

Terezia left Hungary in 1957 during the Hungarian Revolution and landed in Canada by herself with nothing but the clothes on her back. She worked for the Calgary School Board for twenty years and retired when she was 65. Unsure of what to do with herself, she decided to define her new life and role, and it didn’t take long to fill her days. She loved watching old movies, reading, walking in Bowness Park, and spending time with her family. Her favorite place to go was to Radium, where she could spend hours in the pool.

She leaves behind a large family that she loved and would do anything for, never expecting anything in return. Left to cherish her memory are, her children, Judy (Attila), Katalin (Jozsi), Agnes (Herbert), and Jeno Jr (Natalia); her grandchildren, James (Beth), Matthew (Amanda), Steven (Nicole), Victoria (James), Lisa (Brendon), Cassandra, Sara (Ryan), Sabrina, Sasha, and Maria; as well as her great-grandchildren, Peyton, Cammie, Nash, Owen, Luna, Madison, Olivia, Makayla, Avery, Genevieve, Norah, and Abigail. She is also survived by a large extended family and many friends residing in Hungary and the United States.

She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Jeno Sr II in 2020, her daughter Eva in 1981, her parents, Lidia and Jozsef Kovacs, one brother, and three sisters; and numerous friends that she will be happy to meet up with again.

As per Terezia’s wishes, a Private Family Service was held.

Please have a shot of her favorite Cognac (Hennessy) and raise it in the air to wish her well on her next journey. She will be sorely missed and forever loved. We will ALWAYS remember you!
