Obituary of Stan McQuarrie
January 3, 1954 - Shelburne, Ontario
September 13, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta
Stanley McQuarrie, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024, in Calgary, AB. His untimely departure has left a deep void in the lives of all who knew him. Stanley is lovingly remembered by his wife Rosemarie Nardella, daughter Lesley (Spencer), adored granddaughter Frida, and his stepchildren, Justin (Alayssa) and Janessa. He will be missed dearly by his brothers, Howard (belated Alaina) and Raymond (Edith); his nieces, Laura and Melissa; and his nephews, Christopher and Kevin.
Born in rural Shelburne, ON, his parents John Wesley and Alfreda taught him and his brothers the values of honest hard work and the virtues of a loving family. These formative experiences helped guide him in both his personal life and career. He earned a degree in computer science at the University of Waterloo to become a well-respected team leader and a loyal and trusted partner in business which was key to the execution of many complex IT projects. Stan’s admirable qualities led to many lifelong friendships. Stan had the remarkable ability to strike up a conversation with those he had just met, making fast friends in any situation, given the opportunity.
His reliable and attentive nature became a fixture in the lives of many who came to know Stan, as he was always available with a methodical plan in hand when needed. He would always be happy to share a scotch and talk about anything from the Blue Jays to the Blue Nose. Stan was a patron of the arts, cherishing his time together with Rosemarie attending the Ballet, Philharmonic Orchestra and numerous other Canadian and International musical acts. He loved photography and collected paintings. Together, Rosemarie and Stan would collect choice pieces, as they travelled the provinces of Canada, all proudly displayed at home. He wore his Scottish heritage with pride even if he preferred a fine suit over a kilt.
His final years were filled with love, taking every opportunity to visit his granddaughter Frida in Vancouver. Stan’s joy was to create special experiences for his family, fueling Lesley and Frida’s love of all things equestrian. His efforts did not go unnoticed, making a strong bond with Frida that will be remembered dearly. His caring nature to create wonderful memories with Rosemarie filled his heart, as much as hers. He cherished sharing the things he loved, such as his favourite spot for a nice glass of wine with Janessa or a trip to the mountains with Justin. He will be remembered through the indelible mark he left on all those he supported and loved.
