Obituary of Beulah Mayfield (nee Streight)
June 17, 1929 - September 28, 2024
The family of Beulah Mayfield announces her peaceful passing on Saturday, September 28, 2024, in Williams Lake, BC, at the age of 95 years.
Beulah (Boo) was a born and raised Calgarian, to parents Percy and Doris Gorton, and along with her two sisters Daisy and Mid, grew up in the community of Hillhurst. She met her first husband Leighton Streight, who was visiting family across from her 13th Street NW home, and they married in 1953. She became a United Church minister’s wife and together she and Leighton lived in Toronto, ON; Campbell River, Vancouver, and Victoria, BC (twice), before the now family of six returned home to Calgary in 1971. After Leighton passed away in 1998, Beulah married Philip Mayfield in 2005 and moved to Williams Lake, BC, where she resided until her passing.
Beulah was a lifelong member of the United Church of Canada. Throughout her life she immersed herself in activities at each of the many churches of which she was a member, whether that be singing in the choir, acting in church plays, being a member of the Couples Club, making Christmas puddings, or serving at strawberry teas and church basement suppers. As a young girl she was a member of CGIT (Canadian Girls in Training), a church-based organization in which girls vow to cherish health, seek truth, know God, serve others, and with the help of Jesus, “become the girl God would have me be.” Throughout her entire life, she fulfilled this vow every day and remained devoted to her Christian faith.
Surviving Beulah are her husband, Philip, her children, Kathy (Don), Murray (Brenda), Janet (Gerry), and Howard (Katherine), and her grandchildren, Charity, Colin, and Natalie who will ever and always hold her dear in their hearts. Also remembering her are her best friend and dear sister Mid, and the Mayfield Family. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Daisy, first husband Leighton, granddaughter Lyndsay, and her brothers-in-law Peter, and Harold.
